Swans Inspired by Olympians at Pool Re-Opening

Kimbolton School pool reopen

Swans were honoured to be invited by Kimbolton School to join a ceremony marking the re-opening of their newly refurbished swimming pool.

Along with pools in St Neots and Bedford, Swans are frequent users of the Kimbolton School Swimming Pool, using it for squad training throughout the week.

The pool has undergone a significant refurbishment involving being completely dismantled, a new pool being installed, the surroundings being replaced with modern fittings, water efficient showers installed, new lighting and a stunning feature window to allow more light into the space.

And to celebrate the re-opening, Swans swimmers were joined by olympic swimmers Kevin Burns and Maggie Kelly MBE who cut the tape to mark the refurbishment officially complete.  Kevin was the first black swimmer to make a GB swimming team, competing in the 1976 Montreal olympics.  Maggie also competed in the 1976 games and 4 years later in the Moscow olympics of 1980.  They both brought along a range of memorabilia from their swimming careers, with Swans swimmers being allowed to feel what its like to be an olympic medalist by wearing Maggie’s silver medal which she won as part of the Great Britain 4 x 100m medley relay team in Moscow.

Swans swimmers, a number of whom also swim for Kimbolton School, put on a coaching display for a large number of guests who had been invited to take a look at the new pool.  Followed by a number of races which both Kevin and Maggie had a go at starting!
