🏊♂️ Our Coaching Philosophy
At St Neots Swans, we believe in building swimmers for the long term. Our goal is to develop technical excellence and a healthy mindset, ensuring our athletes thrive throughout their teenage years and beyond.
🚀 The “Foundation First” Approach
Following the Swim England LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) pathway, our priority is building a strong technical base before focusing on speed.
-
Technique & Control: Mastering body position and stroke mechanics first.
-
Building the Engine: Optimising speed and power only once the foundations are solid.
-
Reduced Pressure: Avoiding “early speed” prevents burnout and plateaus in later years.
📈 How We Measure Progress
Moving between squads isn’t just about race results. We look at the “whole swimmer” to decide when they are ready for the next challenge:
-
Consistency: Maintaining high-quality technique during every set.
-
Coachability: The ability to listen, learn, and apply feedback.
-
Pacing & Intent: Understanding how to control speed and effort.
-
Mindset: Positive behaviour, sportsmanship, and strong attendance.
🤝 Consistency Across the Club
As we grow and strengthen our coaching team, this framework ensures every swimmer receives the same high-level guidance, regardless of which squad they are in. We make every minute of our pool time count!
